AGCLOXTIN 1G (Amoxicillin + Clavulanic acid)
Amoxicillin/Clavulanic acid is also known as co-amoxiclav which is an antibiotic useful for the treatment of a number of bacterial infections. A combination of amoxicillin (a β-lactam antibiotic) and potassium clavulanate (a β-lactamase inhibitor). It is specifically used for otitis media, strep throat, pneumonia, cellulitis, urinary tract infections, animal bites, and tuberculosis.
Indication/Treatment: Infections due to beta-lactamase-producing strains (where amoxicillin alone not appropriate), bacterial infections such as respiratory tract infections, genitor-urinary and abdominal infections, cellulitis, animal bites, severe dental infection with spreading cellulitis, surgical prophylaxis.
Contra-indications: History of co-amoxiclav-associated jaundice or hepatic dysfunction, history of penicillin-associated jaundice or hepatic dysfunction,
Adverse/Side-effect: Cholestatic jaundice, hepatitis, nausea, vomiting, toxic epidermal necrolysis, exfoliative dermatitis, vasculitis, prolongation of bleeding time, dizziness, headache, convulsion especially with high doses or in renal impairment.

Cautionary conditions: Breast feeding, hepatic impairment, not to be used in pregnancy, not to use in patients hypersensitive to penicillin.
Precaution/Caution: Acute lymphocytic leukaemia (increased risk of erythematous rashes), chronic lymphocytic leukaemia, cytomegalovirus infection, glandular fever, maintain adequate hydration with high doses (particularly during parental therapy); with intravenous use, Accumulation of electrolytes contained in parental preparation can occur with high doses, cholestatic jaundice can occur either during or shortly after the use of co-amoxiclav.
Warning: Space the doses evenly throughout the day and keep taking this medicine until the course is finished, unless the doctor says stop. Also, desist from self-medication and adhere to doctor’s prescription
