Hypertension (HTN or HT) is commonly known as high blood pressure (HBP) characterized by a long-term medical condition in which the blood pressure in the arteries is persistently elevated. Persistent high blood pressure is a silent killer and usually does not cause symptoms but a long term major risk factors such as coronary artery disease, stroke, heart failure, atrial fibrillation, peripheral vascular disease, vision loss, chronic kidney disease, and dementia.

Anti-hypertensives are a class of drugs that are used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure). Among the most important and most widely used drugs are thiazide diuretics, calcium channel blockers, ACE inhibitors, angiotensin II receptor antagonists (ARBs), and beta blockers.
