Indomethacin is an NSAID with anti-inflammatory, antipyretic and analgesic properties. It is a potent inhibitor of prostaglandin synthesis, its mode of action may be due to a decrease of prostaglandins in peripheral tissues.
Indication/Treatment: Pain and moderate to severe inflammation in rheumatic disease and other musculoskeletal disorder; acute gout; dysmenorrhea, juvenile rheumatoid, arthritis, osteoarthritis, lumbago, fever, ankylosing Spondylitis
Contra-indications: Active gastrointestinal bleeding; active gastrointestinal ulceration; history of gastrointestinal bleeding related to previous NSAID therapy; history of gastrointestinal perforation related to previous NSAID therapy; children under 14 years; active peptic ulcer; pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Adverse/Side-effect: Abdominal discomfort, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, confusion, convulsion, rash, dizziness, skin rashes, Steven-Johnson syndrome, blood disorder, peripheral neuropathy, hepatic disorder Etc.

Cautionary conditions: Heart failure, allergic disorder; avoid rectal administration in haemorrhoids, uncontrolled hypertension; epilepsy, elderly, connective tissue disorder, cerebrovascular disease, cardiac impairment, renal impairment, breastfeeding, pregnancy
Precaution/Caution: May mask the signs and symptoms of infection (use with existing infections); fluid retention and peripheral oedema may occur; may prolong bleeding time, so use with caution in coagulation disorder; severe hepatic reactions including jaundice and fatal hepatitis, may occur.
